Alexey Markov

Baritone Alexey Markov is from Vyborg in Russia, a graduate of the Academy of Young Opera Singers at Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre, and has won competitions including the Rimsky-Korsakov International Competition of Young Opera Singers and Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Opera Singers. He has been an ensemble member at the Mariinsky Theatre since 2008. Alexey Markov has made guest appearances at numerous opera houses and festivals, including New York’s Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, the Opéra national de Lyon, London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Zurich Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, Dresden’s Semperoper, and the Salzburg Festival and Baden-Baden Summer Festival. His repertoire includes roles such as Count Luna (Il Trovatore), Giorgio Germont (La Traviata), Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Don Carlo di Vargas (La forza del destino), Scarpia (Tosca), Marcello (La Bohème), Chorèbe (Les Troyens), Valentin (Faust), Escamillo (Carmen), Prince Yeletsky and Count Tomsky (Pique Dame) and the title role in Eugene Onegin. Recent performances include Robert (Iolanta), Amonasro (Aida), Macbeth, Andrey Bolkonsky (War and Peace) and Grigory Gryasnoy (The Tsar’s Bride) at the Mariinsky Theatre, Scarpia in Lyon und Tomsky at the Metropolitan Opera. He has previously appeared only as Eugene Onegin at the Wiener Staatsoper,
