Peter Kellner

The young bass/bass-baritone Peter Kellner is from the Slovak Republic, and studied at the State Conservatory of Košice and the Mozarteum University Salzburg, completing his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. He won the Independent Opera Fellowship at the Wigmore Hall Song Competition, 2nd prize and public prize at the 2018 International Mozart Competition and first prize at the International Singing Competition Ferruccio Tagliavini in Deutschlandsberg. Peter Kellner has been an ensemble member at the Wiener Staatsoper since the 2018/19 season. In the current season he will sing roles including Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Gang Member Number 1 in the new production of Henze’s Das verratene Meer under Simone Young. In London he will again sing Colline in La Bohème. Peter Kellner is also giving concerts in venues including New York, Cleveland and Prague. At the Wiener Staatsoper he sang Theseus, Il re di Scozia in Ariodante and Leporello in Don Giovanni in the 2019/20 season. He had a major success at the Royal Opera House as Colline. Peter Kellner débuted at the Wiener Staatsoper as Panthée in Berlioz‘s Les Troyens, as Ratcliffe (Billy Budd) at Royal Opera House Covent Garden and as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Volksoper Wien and the Glyndebourne Festival. He also sang Papageno (The Magic Flute) at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville and the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi Trieste. Further débuts included Sarastro (The Magic Flute) at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the title role in Handel’s Hercules at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, Colas (Bastien und Bastienne) at the Macao Opera Festival, Le Gouverneur (Le Comte Ory) at the Klosterneuburg Festival, Dulcamara (L‘elisir d‘amore) at the Banská Bystrica State Theatre, and Sciarrone (Tosca) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He made his role débuts as Colline and Leporello (Don Giovanni) at the Slovak National Theatre, Bratislava. He appeared at the Salzburg Festival in 2013 as Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail für Kinder and in Don Carlo under Antonio Pappano. As a member of the ensemble at Graz Opera (2015/16 – 2017/18) he sang Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Doctor Grenvil (La Traviata), Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Colline (La Bohème), Lord Sidney (Il viaggio a Reims) and the title role in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro.
