Sabine Devieilhe

A native of Normandy, Sabine Devieilhe first studied cello and musicology before devoting herself entirely to her vocal training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Shortly after graduating, invitations followed to the Aix-en-Provence Festival, as well as to Montpellier for the title role in Léo Delibe's Lakmé and to Lyon for her debut as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. She has since been heard as Soeur Constance in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites in Lyon, Paris and Amsterdam. With the title role of Lakmé she celebrated triumphs at the Opéra Comique in Paris, as well as in Toulon, Avignon and Marseille. At the Opéra national in Paris she appeared as the Queen of the Night and as Hero in Béatrice et Bénédict. This was followed by Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice at the Monnaie in Brussels, Adele in Die Fledermaus at the Opéra Comique, Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande and Nanetta in Falstaff at the Opera in Marseille. Her debut at the Glyndebourne Festival as Le Feu/La Princesse/Le Rossignol in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges was also crowned with success. She celebrated further successes at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées as Ismene in Mitridate, as well as Amina in La sonnambula. This was followed in 2016 by a new production of Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence, where she took to the stage as Belezza. For her debuts as Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at La Scala in Milan, as Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and as Marie in La Fille du régiment at the Zurich Opera House and the Vienna State Opera, she received praise from audiences and press alike. Other highlights in 2018 included her debut as Zerbinetta in a new production of Ariadne auf Naxos at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and her acclaimed debut singing Mozart arias at the Salzburg Festival. 2018/2019 brought a new production of Die Zauberflöte (Queen of the Night) for Sabine Devieilhe at the Brussels Monnaie. She also enjoyed success as Ophélie in a new production of Hamlet at the Opéra Comique in Paris, as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier at Zurich Opera, as Zerbinetta in a new production of Ariadne auf Naxos at La Scala in Milan and as Marie in Donizetti's La fille du régiment at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. In 2019 she could be seen in a new production of Rameau's Les Indes galantes at the Opéra national de Paris. 2021/2022 was marked by staged productions such as Alcina (Morgana) at the Opéra national de Paris, Hamlet (Ophélie) at the Opéra Comique, and a new production of Giulio Cesare (Cleopatra) at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées as well as Idomeneo (Ilia) at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence.  The 2022/2023 season brings staged productions such as Lakmé at the Opéra Comique in Paris, her Metropolitan Opera debut with Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites (Soeur Constance) Poulenc's Les Mamelles de Tirésias and Stravinsky's Le Rossignol at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées.
