Michaela Schuster

Michaela Schuster was born in Fürth, Bavaria, and studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and the Berlin University of the Arts.  She has made numerous guest appearances, including at Berlin State Opera as Sieglinde (Die Walküre), Kundry (Parsifal), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde) and Venus (Tannhäuser); houses include the Semperoper in Dresden and the Teatro Real in Madrid as Sieglinde; the Norwegian Opera in Oslo as Ortrud (Lohengrin); the Hamburg State Opera as Kundry and Amneris (Aida); the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona as Brangäne; the Théâtre de La Monnaie in Brussels and the Salzburg Festival as the Nurse (Die Frau ohne Schatten); the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Laura (La Gioconda); the Lyric Opera Chicago as Ortrud and Venus; the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Herodias (Salome), as Klytämnestra (Elektra), Venus, Principessa di Boullion (Adriana Lecouvreur) and the Nurse; La Scala in Milan as the Nurse and the Opéra national de Paris as Clairon (Capriccio). Michaela Schuster débuted at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2006 as Sieglinde and has to date sung Fricka (Rheingold, Walküre), the Witch (Hansel and Gretel), Ortrud, Venus, Herodias, Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana) and Waltraute (Götterdämmerung). Recently she has sung the Nurse in Berlin, Herodias in Cologne, the Mother (Hansel and Gretel) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Klytämnestra (Elektra) in Frankfurt, Fricka (Die Walküre) and Waltraute at the Metropolitan Opera, Zita in Gianni Schicchi in Munich, Herodias at the Theater an der Wien and the Nurse in Paris.
