Regine Hangler

Soprano Regine Hangler began her musical studies with violin and viola. After studying engineering, she strayed into voice studies almost accidentally, completing them at the Carinthian State Conservatorium and University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, graduating with first class honours in both cases.  Her mentors included Mara Zampieri, Gundula Janowitz and Dame Gwyneth Jones. She won various scholarships, was a finalist in the AsLiCo competition in Italy and took second prize in the Birgit Nilsson competition. She has been a soprano soloist since 2010 at Vienna’s St Stephen’s Cathedral, Augustinian Church and Jesuit Church. Her concert performances have taken her to venues including Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary and Japan. Recent engagements included the Salzburg Festival, the Spring Festival in Tokyo, the Semperoper, the Bayreuth Festival and Milan’s La Scala. She has been a member of the ensemble at the Wiener Staatsoper since the 2013 season, and her roles here include Rosalinde (»Die Fledermaus«), Daphne, Chrysothemis (»Elektra«), Gutrune (»Götterdämmerung«), Helmwige (»Die Walküre«), First Lady (»The Magic Flute«), Leitmetzerin (»Der Rosenkavalier«), and Gertrud (»Hansel and Gretel«).
