Originally from Freiburg, Martin Gantner made his opera debut in Koblenz as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, after which he was engaged by Götz Friedrich for the world premiere of Henze's Das verratene Meer. From 1993-2007 he was a member of the ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera and was appointed Bavarian Kammersänger in 2005. Recent highlights include performances in Munich, Chicago, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Florence, Turin, at the New York Met, in San Francisco, Toronto, Dresden, Rome, Stuttgart, Berlin, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and at the Bayreuth Festival.
