Raimund Lissy

Raimund Lissy was born in Vienna and received his first violin lessons at the age of four. He went on to study with Thomas Kakuska at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna as well as with Alfred Staar. After after engagements at the Arena di Verona, he joined the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in 1988. In 1991 he became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. That same year, he became first chair of the 2nd violins. Since 1993 he has been principle of the second violins for the Vienna Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. Raimund Lissy has also been active in the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle since 2013.
In 2016, he performed as a soloist, together with Albena Danailova, in Johann Sebastian Bach's Double Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic in the Papal Basilica of San Paolo fuori le Mura (Saint Paul Outside the Walls) at the Vatican.
As second violinist in the Ensemble Wien, Raimund Lissy is intensively dedicated to chamber music. With this string quartet formation, he has performed annually in the Brahms-Saal of the Vienna Musikverein since 1994. In addition, he has performed with several renown artists and internationally in numerous important concert halls such as in New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Tokyo and Paris, and at festivals such as the Salzburger Festspiele and the Berliner Festwochen.
In 2008 he founded the Lissy Quartett. He has regularly given concerts with this piano quartet formation in the Gläserner Saal of the Musikverein in Vienna has performed, among other, premieres of works by Balduin Sulzer and Michael Wahlmüller.
Other chamber music foundations by Raimund Lissy are the ensemble VioLissymo and Philharmonia Seconda. As a soloist he has played several violin concertos with orchestra and has given sonata recitals. In addition, there are around 30 solo and chamber music CD recordings.
The cultivation of the works of violin virtuoso and composer Joseph Mayseder is one of Raimund Lissy's particular interests and concerns. Among others, he is the producer of the documentary »Joseph Mayseder«, shown on ORF III in 2019, and author of the biography »Virtuosität und Wiener Charme: Joseph Mayseder« (2019, Hollitzer Wissenschaftsverlag).
