The South African tenor Katleho Mokhoabane, born 1996, started singing very early as a boy Soprano in his local church choir, where his father was the choir director, and subsiquently in school choirs, where the transition to tenor happened. Katleho completed his bachelors studies 2018 at the Tshwane University of technology, where he was heard in two Mozart roles: Ferrando in Così fan tutte and Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro. Shortly after he participated in the Johannesburg International Mozart Festivals masterclass series with Josef Protschka, where he was a chosen recipient of a scholaship for postgraduate studies. Katleho completed his Masters Studies (2019-2022) at the HFMT Köln under the tutelage of Professorin Brigitte Lindner and privately with Professor Josef Protschka. During his studies in Köln Katleho was heard as Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte in a student production at the Theater Aachen as a guest performance and Alfred in Strauss’ Fledermaus, also in concerts around Nordrhein-Westfalen. Katleho also participated multiple times in International Singing Competitions, i.e CLIP in Protofino Italy (3. Prize), Debut Singing Competiton (2. Prize) and the important International Music Competiton Köln (1. Prize). In the Season 2021-2022 Katleho participated in multiple productions both as a soloist and a chorus member, i.e. Oper Bonn in Verdis Don Carlo as Graf von Lerma/ein Königlicher Herold and Theater Koblenz as a solo inmate in Jake Heggies Dead man walking. Katleho is a member of the Opernstudio of the Wiener Staatsoper.
