Ted Black

Born in London in 1994, tenor Ted Black studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal College of Music. His roles include Ferrando (Così fan tutte) and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at Opera Wrocław in Poland, Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at Opera Zuid in the Netherlands, and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) and Gonzalve (L’heure espagnole) at the RCM. Ted also frequently performs as a concert artist, and this season will take part in the Académie Orsay-Royaumont, coaching with artists including Véronique Gens, Christian Gerhaher and Susan Manoff, and performing song recitals at the Musée d’Orsay, Paris. He was a 2021 Samling artist, working closely with Sir Mark Elder, Sir Thomas Allen and Yvonne Kenny. Concert highlights include Messiah with the Academy of Ancient Music, and The Apostles with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Ted has been successful in numerous competitions, winning first place in the 2019 Lies Askonas Competition, was a finalist in the 2020 Kathleen Ferrier Award, and a semi-finalist in the 2022 Paris Opera Competition.
