Christina Bock

Mezzo soprano Christina Bock was born in Thuringia and studied at the University of Music and Theatre »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Leipzig and the Karlsruhe University of Music. She is currently studying with Charlotte Lehmann in Hanover. She is a scholarship recipient of the Richard Wagner Association of Leipzig and a prize-winner of the Arnold Schoenberg Centre Vienna. After finishing out her contract with Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, she has been a member of Dresden Semperoper since the 2014/15 season. There she has appeared as Nicklausse/Muse in the new production of »Les Contes d'Hoffmann«, as Jordan Baker in the European première of »The Great Gatsby«, and as Preziosilla in the première of »La forza del Destino«. In June and July 2017 Christina Bock appeared on the stage of the Semperoper as Lisa in »Die Passagierin«. She can also be heard singing all the lyric roles in her fach, including Second Lady in »Die Zauberflöte«, Cherubino in »Le nozze di Figaro« and Prince Orlofsky in »Die Fledermaus«. In addition to working on the stage, the young singer has a strong artistic focus on chamber music. She has been working since 2013 with the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and in 2017 founded the »énsemble épique«. She is also a regular guest at the chamber music concerts of Staatskapelle Dresden and the »Klassik Krumbach« chamber music festival. Her many guest performances have taken her amongst others to Theater Freiburg, where she enjoyed considerable success in the title role of »Die Csárdásfürstin«, and to Salzburg, where she performed the role of Waltraute in »Die Walküre« under the direction of Christian Thielemann at the 2017 Easter Festival. She made her début as Bernardo in the German-language world première of »Beatrice Cenci« at the 2018 Bregenzer Festspiele. Also in 2018 she made her début at Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London as the Page in »Salome« and returned in autumn 2018 as Wellgunde in »Götterdämmerung« and »Rheingold«. In the 2018/19 season, she sang Hansel in »Hansel und Gretel« for the first time at the Semperoper and Octavian in »Der Rosenkavalier«. Future projects include Second Lady (»Die Zauberflöte«) at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, Orlofsky and Ottavia (»L’incoronazione di Poppea«) at the Wiener Staatsoper, Octavian in a guest performance by the Wiener Staatsoper in Japan and also in Dresden.
